Brightcove Engineering will perform scheduled maintenance tasks to Brightcove platform infrastructure on Saturday, November 16th, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM UTC.
During the maintenance window, Brightcove Engineering will deploy upgrades to critical database infrastructure on which Brightcove's Catalog APIs rely, as well as select Brightcove Live jobs.
The upgrades are intended to optimize platform performance, security, and stability, and to support ongoing collaboration and support from Brightcove's cloud technology partner.
Customers may encounter brief periods of minor latency when interacting with products and services for which the CMS API is required. For example, Video Cloud Studio's Media module UI, Brightcove Gallery, Cloud Playout and requests for Video Cloud title creation prior to an ingestion request or during the creation of a Brightcove Live job.
While no downtime nor request failures are anticipated, it is recommended that—in the unlikely event of a failed request—customers execute a given request again, either manually or via custom retry logic.
Additionally, to provide continued secure, stable and efficient live streaming experiences, Brightcove's Live Engineering Team will pursue maintenance-related tasks on select Brightcove Live jobs.
There are two primary criteria selected as a basis for the effort:
• Brightcove Live stream(s) activated before August 24th, 2024, without reactivation since, will be disconnected and redirected to new streaming workers updated with the latest security patches. Live streams subject to maintenance could be down for up to ten minutes, but likely much shorter. Brightcove Live streams created, started or reactivated since August 24th, 2024, are unaffected by this effort.
The intended updates include fixes for security vulnerabilities.
To minimize any impact and/or downtime, it is recommended that customers with Brightcove Live streams in the aforementioned category deactivate and reactivate the associated Live job(s) before the upcoming November 16th window. If electing to perform the task, it is also recommended that customers confirm reconnection of the associated encoder(s) following to ensure continued streaming activity thereafter. Customers can and are encouraged to perform the task(s) at a time of their choosing, which will move the actioned live stream(s) to the most up-to-date systems and streaming workers.
• Secondly, Brightcove's Live Engineering Team will archive static entry point (SEP)-connected Brightcove Live jobs that have remained idle, unused, or inactive since September 1st, 2023—i.e. a period of approximately 14 months.
Any SEP-connected Live jobs in the aforementioned category still required by customers can be reactivated at any time before the November 16th window. Reactivation will automatically remove the job from the upcoming maintenance effort.
This component of the maintenance effort is a measure to enhance overall platform efficiency.
Brightcove Engineering will monitor system stability and activity during the maintenance window and will have available resources on standby to mitigate any significant interruptions.
If you have any further questions about the effort—including attaining confirmation regarding any existing Brightcove Live job within your publisher account—Brightcove's global Support Team will gladly assist and can be reached via our Support Portal at: supportportal.brightcove.com.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
